Governor fires state’s emergency management director

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Governor Andrew Cuomo has fired the state's emergency management director for using crews to clean up his personal driveway during superstorm Sandy.

Director of Emergency Management Steven Kuhr was let go after the governor was informed Kuhr called a Suffolk County crew to removed a downed tree from his driveway at his home on Long Island.

Kuhr was responsible for coordinating crews to respond to state's disasters. The state's emergency management office is a counterpart to FEMA.

Kuhr was collecting a salary of $153,000 and was working in Albany when the storm hit.
