NASSAU, N.Y. -- Two hunters found a truck Tuesday morning buried in the woods of East Nassau. It was burned, along with its driver.

"We went to look inside the truck and at first I didn't even recognize the body," said one of the hunters, Keaven Green.

State Police couldn't identify the remains either. The vehicle, however, belonged to Ryan Patton, who went missing last Wednesday.

"He had to have been moving at a great speed because the creek goes down then comes back up, so he had to hit that hard to get to the other side," said Green.

The Rensselaer County Sheriff's Department said the truck appeared to have veered off a narrow dirt path not intended for full sized vehicles.

"If he'd have gone across the bridge he'd have been fine, but he went through the creek and down the other side of the bridge," said Green. "There's a stone wall and he hit that but he also hit a tree."

Members of Patton's family had released a flyer since the 28-year-old went missing. Teams of volunteers have been searching for him for days.

Deputies hope an autopsy will help them find out more information and possibly identify the body. That's scheduled for Wednesday morning.
