BRUNSWICK, N.Y. -- The Rensselaer County family charged $1,400 for the water used to extinguish a fire at their home won't have to foot the bill after all.

A fire destroyed Mike Petrio's Garfield Road home in Brunswick late last month. The Town of Poestenkill also responded to the fire, hooking up to Brunswick's water supply.

Brunswick's water department then charged the town of Poestenkill for the use of water, which then in turn charged the Petrio family.

Thursday night, Poestenkill town officials initially voted to reduce the bill charged to Petrio, then unanimously decided to forgive the bill all together.

This comes after Eagle Mills firefighters held a benefit to help the family pay the bill.
