ALBANY, N.Y. -- The State Office of Emergency Management held a briefing Friday to discuss the snowstorm moving across the northeast, and the state says it's ready to help you dig out.

The Emergency Operations Center is active to keep track of everything from travel conditions to food deliveries statewide. They say doing so will make it easier to coordinate federal and state assistance.

Officials are urging people to get off the roads as soon as possible and stay at home. Also, food, generators, and heating units are available to downstate residents still recovering from Sandy.

“At the governor’s direction last year we have established statewide logistics centers where we have generators, light towers, food and water supplies and other materials so we can support any communities that has significant impact from an event like this,” said Greg Brunell, State Emergency Management.

More snow, dropping temperatures, and black ice are expected throughout the storm.
