SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- "It was safe glass, you know the kind that shouldn't break? Well, I guess it didn't work," laughed Beauty Salon owner Philippe Bevan.
Bevan laughs now, but wasn't Sunday morning when he discovered someone burglarized his salon.
"They stole a brand new beautiful computer and opened my safe and took all my cash, credit card, check, everything that was inside," said Bevan.
Bevan's was one of six Broadway businesses broken into late Saturday night, all accessed, police say, by the Arcade's back alley window. Investigators arrived when the building manager called.
"They gathered some evidence that's going to take us a while to analyze and hopefully identify a suspect," said Saratoga Springs Police Lieutenant Greg Veitch.
Bevan said he didn't expect it of Saratoga. Now he'll take precautions.
"You're not that confident anymore," said Bevan. "I have someone coming in to install a security alarm that will alert the police right away."
Police say the burglaries are unrelated to several strong-armed robberies that happened downtown and in Congress Park. Still, both up the need for increased police presence, much to the relief of many in the community.
"It's not unusual to have strong armed robberies in Saratoga Springs," said Lt. Veitch. "We have maybe half a dozen to a dozen every year. However, with multiple offenders in the same area with so many in such a short period of time, it does raise our concern a little bit."
Police say the robberies, reported over the last several weeks, left victims held up for cash at knife point. The news worries some park visitors.
"I always trusted this park," said Angelica Apostol. "I never thought anything bad would happen, I guess."
Police have turned up two suspects so far. But for the robbery victims and park visitors, they'll continue their search.
"When we see an increase in crime, we're going to increase our patrols and do some different things tactically, we're not going to say publicly," said Lt. Veitch. "But we'll do some operations in that area to try to deter or prevent some of these crimes."
