MALTA, N.Y. -- It's time for another progress check at GlobalFoundries in Malta, where workers have been working around the clock to build the $4.5 billion chip fab plant. The new plant is supposed to bring 1,400 or more new jobs to the area.

A neighborhood meeting open to the public is held every three months to give the community updates and answer questions on the project.

"The construction phase itself is right on track. We're roughly about 75 percent done with what we call the base build construction. And so we're actually going to start moving our people into the office building portion of the campus in late May, early June," said GlobalFoundries Spokesman Travis Bullard.

Bullard says the manufacturing tools will start moving in in July. Full volume production is set to take place the beginning of 2013.
