MALTA, N.Y. -- Company stock for Apple is up more than 75 percent this year and local tech companies looking for similar success need look no further than Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

GlobalFoundries provided the back drop for four special industry guests to share their vision of the future for the capital region. Most vocal on the panel, Peter Schultz, the co-founder of Fiber Optics, and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Both offered kudos for the $4 billion fab eight site and the nano tech and greater tech valley industry growing around it in the Capital Region. They also recognized a couple challenges the region faces if it wants to continue expansion.

"I'm going to tell you this is just the beginning. It is not time to pat yourself on the back. There are a lot more things that have to be built to be able to make this thing really go," Schultz said.

"Large companies or cities are starting to think what kind of environment you want for people to live in. What kind of stores and nearby facilities do they have if they are going to live in a very close environment," Wozniak said.

Each panelist said the Capital Region has the resources and smarts to thrive as a high tech center.
