SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Tens of thousands of people have signed a petition against the New York State SAFE Act. The petition was started by State Senator Kathy Marchione.

Marchione, who won election in November, was one of 18 Republicans to vote against the bill. Because it was signed without any public input, Marchione says the petition is a way for people to voice their dissent.

Marchione wants to repeal certain parts of measure, including the redefinition of assault weapons and the reduction of the number of rounds allowed in a magazine. She says even for gun owners, the new law if difficult to understand.

"I think that it's very important that we have some additional information. Is my gun banned or is it not?" Marchione said.

Marchione says the petition has more than 60,000 signatures. She hopes it will help sway other lawmakers to rethink the law.
