MALTA, N.Y. -- As companies like GlobalFoundries continue to boost their investment in the Capital Region, industry leaders want to help train and build a more skilled workforce, starting with students in high school.
Leaders gathered Tuesday at the Tec-Smart campus in Malta. They say to remain competitive, the key is for government agencies, schools and businesses to work together, with the same strategy in mind.
"The answer is not to build a better 20th Century school experience, the answer is to innovate and create 21st Century schools; collaboration across sectors will do that," said Joseph Dragone, Ballston Spa CSD Superintendent.
"We've clearly come a long way with the progress we've made, but we've really got a 20, 20-plus-year play here and for us to capitalize on that, we've really got to work together," said Daniel Pickett, nfrastructure CEO.
Students from Tec-Smart's "Clean Technologies and Sustainable Industries Early College High School" program, which combines high school and college level courses, showed off their work at the conference.
