SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Saratoga County Sheriff's office is warning residents of a recent scam in the area.
An elderly woman was contacted by phone and told she had won a million dollars. But to collect her winnings, the man on the other end said she had to buy prepaid credit cards and give him the numbers.
That elderly woman bought $1,500 worth of green dot pay-pal cards and gave him the numbers.
Deputies say the woman was planning to buy an additional $3,000 worth of cards before the sheriff's office told her it was a scam.
Now while deputies were at her home, they say the scammer called the woman's home ten times trying to get even more money. They say if anyone calls you claiming you've won a bunch of money, be careful and give authorities a call.
