A Sullivan County teenager lies in a hospital bed fighting for her life after being shot multiple times. Our Elaina Athans brings us more.
TOWN OF WALLKILL -- “That’s very disturbing you know,” said Howard Johnson tenant David Cortright.
The Town of Wallkill's Howard Johnson Hotel turned into a crime scene late Saturday night. A teenager was shot numerous times and one bullet hit her straight in the eye.
“I heard ambulance and the fire horns and all that going off,” said Cortright.
The female victim, who is from South Fallsburg, is listed is very critical condition at Westchester Medical Center.
Cortright and his family has been staying at the hotel for a couple of months.
He said, “I have two kids here and a little worried about that you know. I’ve never heard of anything like this happening over here.”
Police said the victim was in the parking lot sitting in a vehicle and that’s when the shooter came up and fired multiple shots with a handgun.
“My room’s right next to the door actually and it could have gone through the wall and shot one of the kids or something,” said Cortright.
Police describe the gunman as a 6 foot tall, African-American male wearing a dark colored hoodie sweatshirt. That description is pretty close to a man Cortright saw Saturday sitting on this blue tarp, smoking cigarettes for hours.
“He looked suspicious. You know, he had the hood over his head a grey hoodie,” said Cortright.
Police said the shooter left the scene driving a grey Nissan Maxima. Town of Wallkill police is urging anyone with information on the gunman's whereabouts to contact detectives at (845) 692-6757.
The victim's name is not being released. Police are trying to locate the teenager's relatives to inform them about the shooting.
