A standing ovation from thousands, hugs from teammates and a strikeout for a win. That's how many envisioned one of the best closers in baseball closing his career.

But it all may have come to an end Thursday afternoon for Mariano Rivera.

Rivera went down in pain, clutching his right knee before Thursday night's game in Kansas City. He was catching fly balls during pre-game warm-ups when he got hurt and had to be carted off the field.

It initially appeared Rivera had a twisted knee, but he was sent to a local hospital for an MRI. It was later revealed that Rivera tore the ACL and meniscus in his right knee and will not play again this season.

At the age of 42, number 42 is the all-time leader in regular season and post-season saves. He won the World Series MVP in 1999.
