SUNY leaders vote to go tobacco-free

NEW YORK -- All SUNY campuses could soon be tobacco free. The State University of New York Board of Trustees voted to support such a proposal on Tuesday.

The measure would ban tobacco from all campus buildings, both indoors and out, parking areas, and even off-campus university facilities. Smoking has been banned inside SUNY dorms and buildings since 2007.

If passed, SUNY would be one of the largest university systems in the country to adopt a tobacco-free policy. There a 64 campuses in the system.
