One of the puppies that was found abandoned in Albany with its paw severed, takes a huge step forward in its recovery. YNN's Lori Chung has more on how they community is coming together to make sure the puppies have a happy life after a painful start.

ALBANY, N.Y -- "They chew your shoes, they steal your socks, they just do normal puppy stuff," said Deb Wagner, foster mother.

However, the injury that Hudson suffered at the hands of an abuser makes it hard for him to keep up with his sister, Pearl.

"If you notice in the pen, his sister wants to go and he's laying down. A normal puppy like that wouldn't lay down if he had a choice," said Dr. Tom Bowersox, veterinarian.

But, this prosthetic will give Hudson the leg up he needs.

Bowersox added, "He happens to be a prime candidate because he has so much of his leg left."

Hudson and Pearl were among three pit bull puppies that were found abandoned when they were three-weeks-old. They all had injuries to their rear left leg, but Hudson's paw was severed.

"When they first came in, we were concerned really, with keeping them alive," said Brad Shear, Mohawk Hudson Humane Society Executive Director.

Now that the leg is on, the big test is how Hudson will adjust to it, but so far he is off to a great start.

"He started walking on it right away, he sits on it really well, jumped up on the thing. Doesn't even act like it bothers him," said Bowersox.

Though one puppy died from its injuries, Hudson and Pearl continue to thrive because of the kindness from the community. Donations have flowed in since their story first made news in September, including the prosthetics which are being donated by a Canadian company.

Shear noted, "Animal lovers out there in the Capital Region should take pride in the fact that because of them, these puppies had a chance. And now they're getting this really unusual medical procedure and going to be home soon."

It won't be long until they find a forever home. The humane society hopes to have Hudson and Pearl adopted by Christmas. They are asking that anyone who wants to give the puppies a home, to submit a letter or essay explaining why.
