NEW YORK CITY -- The MTA will not give refunds to unlimited ride MetroCard users for the days the system was shut down due to Hurricane Sandy. The MTA has also disagreed with the idea of extending unlimited ride cards as it did after the 2005 transit strike.
Sandy forced the MTA to shut down the transit system the night of October 28th. Some bus service resumed Tuesday evening shortly after the storm and limited subway service was back on November 1st.
Rides were free for two days after Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a transportation emergency.
