NEW YORK STATE -- Sandy victims face various challenges in looking to recover, including the many questions they have over filling out the necessary documents to receive funding from FEMA.
Thursday night, more than one thousand attorneys from all across the U.S. participated in a webinar to learn how to help people with their questions. Those attorneys were joined by officials from the Red Cross and FEMA. They say this is an important part of the recovery process and a good way to learn how to help victims of the storm.
“I think the biggest issue is just educating people on what resources are available. There are a lot of federal and state agencies that have either loans available or grants available or other assistance that people may not even know about,” attorney Phil Wellner said.
People who want legal advice can call a number set up by the State Bar Association at 1-800-699-5636 and receive a free 30 minute legal consultation from volunteer attorneys.
