We're seeing the first real dose of winter weather in the Capital Region this season. Our Erin Vannella has been outside braving the elements and has more.

COLONIE, N.Y. -- People have been making their way to hardware stores around the Capital Region to pick up supplies they might need during the storm. Shovels, salt and snow blowers have been among the popular items.

After a light winter last year, there's been a steady flow of customers at Phillip's Hardware in Colonie picking up what they need for the first big snowstorm of this season.

Store workers say it's important to be prepared for the weather, in case you're not able to leave your home for an extended period of time.

"Rather than checking stock, I’d rather be helping people get their stuff that they need to get on their way and help them, just give them a nice little you're going to be okay, it's just a storm," said Kayla Gauthier, a cashier at Phillips Ace Hardware.
