NISKAYUNA, N.Y. -- A special run was held in honor of the victims of last month's deadly Connecticut school shooting. The Niskayuna Moms on the Run held the event in solidarity with a similar event that took place in Newtown.
Organizers say the event was not a race, but an event to help support for the families of the 26 children and teachers who died in the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting. Although the families of the victims are not accepting any money, they are asking for donations to be sent to various charities.
"E-mails were sent out to the town, we had e-mails sent out to the different schools in the community. Everybody heard about it and so, I'm amazed, this is great. It became a town event and not just a mom event,” said Kelly Anderson, run organizer.
One of the charities receiving money is the Newtown Park Gift Fund, which will help build a memorial in honor of the victims. Another is a local charity, the Van Antwerp Middle School Best Buddies Program in Niskayuna.
