KINGSTON, N.Y. -- It's been a few months since the November election, but after a recount battle, Cecilia Tkaczyk is starting to make her mark on the 46th Senate District.

Tkaczyk held a ceremonial swear ceremony in Kingston Sunday afternoon so she could meet all of the local leaders within her new district. She said it was a long, hard fought battle, with only a 19 vote advantage over former Assemblyman George Amedore.

"I did it because I didn't want to tell a kindergartner they had to wait a year because we hadn't figured out how we're going to fund public education in her school district. I did it because I wanted someone to fight for the farmers and small business owners who need a little more help to be successful,” Tkacyzk said.

Tkacyzk was formally sworn into office on the floor of the State Senate on Wednesday.
