An 8-year-old boy was found unresponsive inside a Schenectady house. YNN's Madeleine Rivera has more.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- A police cruiser outside 23 Mynderse Street in Schenectady is the only sign of the events that shook a family Saturday morning.

"I just heard a lot of screaming and crying," said Gaston Hooks, a neighbor.

Family members found an eight-year-old boy unresponsive early Saturday morning. The Schenectady Fire Department treated the boy at the scene. He was transported to Ellis Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

"Obviously everyone on scene was emotional," said Lt. Mark McCracken of the Schenectady Police Department.

Hooks lives across the street from where the boy lived. He said the boy was mainly taken care of by his grandmother. The rest of the family lived in the house, and Hooks said nothing seemed out of place.

"You see him getting off the bus, getting on the bus, going to church, and they'll be on the yard, playing, and doing yard work," Hooks explained.

Police have not released the boy's identity or his cause of death.

According to Hooks, it is a community where everyone knows each other, and the loss is heart breaking.

"You know, any child, the death of any child, is devastating," said Hooks.
