While there are changes in the Vatican, there will also be some big changes in store for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany. Our Solomon Syed explains.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- We'll have a new Pope soon, and the thought is by the end of this year, we'll have a new Bishop in Albany. Or will we?

Bishop Howard Hubbard is turning 75 on October 31st. According to Vatican law, he must offer to retire at the age of 75. But that retirement could be delayed, even as the Pope has sped up the timetable for the conclave.

Following Bishop Hubbard's birthday, he's going to send official notification to the Vatican that he's reached the age of 75, but then it's up to the new Pope to pick his replacement.

There's a belief the new Pope will, naturally, have to take some time getting acclimated to the Vatican, which may put off choosing a successor for Albany's Roman Catholic Diocese. Until a successor gets picked, Bishop Hubbard will have to stay on the job. That means his retirement could, in theory, be delayed well into next year.

Just to give you an idea of how big a change this will be, Hubbard has been the Bishop since 1977. That will be 36 years, officially, on March 27th.
