The state Education Department has released its list of "persistently dangerous" schools. Locally, only one school has been added -- the Berkshire Farm Junior-Senior High School in Canaan, Columbia County.
But staying on the list is Philip Livingston Middle School in Albany. Livingston was one of five schools put on the list last year.
The Albany City School District has applied to have Livingston removed from the list.
As for state schools on the whole, Education Commissioner Richard Mills said it's now in the hands of school leaders.
He said, "I know that superintendents of schools think all the time about their responsibility to keep the schools safe. And I'm confident that they will receive these lists and act appropriately to improve the conditions that the children face."
The list is mandated by the federal government under the No Child Left Behind Act.
